Including the Justisse Method, there are many approaches to fertility awareness. All approaches provide insight into a woman's natural patterns of fertility, and may be more or less suitable for a women wanting to become pregnant or use it as natural birth control. A natural birth control method is a method used to avoiding pregnancy that does not require the taking of or use of a chemical, hormone, herb, or artificial device. All natural birth control methods involve some way of identifying the fertile and non-fertile phases of a woman's menstrual cycle. All natural birth control methods use periodic abstinence, that is, the avoidance of sexual intercourse or genital-to-genital contact during a woman's fertile days.

Effectiveness of Justisse Method

The Justisse Method is highly effective when used as a method of birth control. Effectiveness is maximized for those by women who have are taught by a HRHP and use the method as designed. Its best use has an effectiveness of 99.6%.

The World Health Organization indicate an overall user effectiveness rate of 80% for birth control methods using periodic abstinence, with an overall 97% effectiveness rate with correct use, and an overall theoretical effectiveness rate of 99.6%. A 2007 Germany study, ongoing since 1985, demonstrates an effectiveness rate of 99.6%.
